What makes a romance serial work
The common thread here is pacing that earns the resolution. Romance is about tension and release. A romance that moves too fast doesn't earn its emotional payoff. A romance that drags forever loses tension. These stories understand that structure and execute it.
The other common thread: these are stories where the characters are interesting outside the romance. They have jobs, friends, problems, and personalities that exist independent of their love interest. The best romance serials are good stories that happen to be about a relationship, not relationship stories that happen to have a plot.
